Proud to be the first
New Zealand spirit in
a paper bottle

With a carbon footprint six times lower than a glass bottle,
we’re trying to make things a bit better for Mother Earth

We believe our bottles are the most sustainable on the planet

We all love a glass bottle, but what happens once it’s empty? More often than not, that beautiful bottle (which has more than likely been shipped from overseas), is used only once. We think we offer a great alternative to single-use glass, and we are confident it’s better for the planet. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s a step in the right direction and we hope others will follow us on this road.

Our bottles are made from 94% recycled paperboard

Our bottles are an exciting alternative to single-use glass. With a carbon footprint six times lower than glass, our paper alternative is helping to decarbonise the drinks industry. Did you know that most spirit bottles in New Zealand get freighted from Europe, to be used only once? And that our bottle also requires four times less water to manufacture than glass?

Once your bottle of Mothers Ruined gin is empty, break it open and remove the inner liner. The cardboard outer layer can be recycled and the food grade pouch can be recycled with your other soft plastics.

The company we work with is constantly trying to improve our bottles. They are working to develop an inner liner that is also compostable. In the meantime, we believe our paper bottle is one of, if not the most, sustainable bottles available, with the lowest carbon footprint of any bottle we are aware of at present.

We’re hoping that soon our bottles will be made from recycled New Zealand paperboard, right here in New Zealand, lowering the carbon footprint even further.

And they’re light!

Our bottles are five times lighter than a standard glass spirit bottle. Five times!

So there’s no excuse not to take them on that next road trip, picnic or even an overseas adventure.
